The Energy Modeling Group (EMG) is a research organization in the Colorado School of Mines' Petroleum Engineering Department. EMG consists of faculty members, graduate students, visiting scholars, and post doctoral researchers. EMG was founded in 2009.

EMG's mission is to develop state-of-the-art reservoir modeling technology and advanced simulation tools for research, teaching, and field applications in the areas of subsurface energy and natural resources, and environmental science and engineering. EMG relies on support from government funding agencies, industry, and international organizations for its research and teaching activities.

Currently, EMG focuses on research in the following areas: (1) CO2 enhanced oil recovery and sequestration modeling; (2) geothermal reservoir simulation; (3) unconventional reservoir simulation (such as tight and shale gas reservoir simulation); and (4) coupled process models for fractured reservoir characterization. EMG seeks collaboration with universities, national laboratories, and industry, especially national and international petroleum companies, in developing advanced reservoir simulation systems.
