The Marathon Center of Excellence for Reservoir Studies (MCERS) investigates a wide spectrum of reservoir problems with emphasis on field applications. Research areas include: reservoir characterization and connectivity, rate and pressure transient analysis, improved and enhanced oil recovery issues, infill well placement and multi-laterals, and improved physics/modeling of naturally fractured reservoirs. The funding raised by the center is used to support research projects conducted by graduate students and faculty. A few example research projects include: multi-scale, multi-mesh computing to capture reservoir heterogeneity and flow architecture, hybrid numerical-analytical model of hydraulic fractures in horizontal wells, and pressure-transient models for naturally fractured reservoirs containing multiple sets of fractures.
MCERS Announcements

Dr. Kazemi, Proud Mom, Basak Kurtoglu (MS), Dr. Ozkan: MCERS is very delighted to have Basak Kurtoglu graduate with a MS degree in December 2009. Basak’s mom arrived from Turkey to watch her daughter walk across the stage to receiver her diploma. We are all very proud and happy for Basak as she moves to Texas and start her career with Marathon Oil Company.

Dr. Ozkan’s undergrad field session of 42 students traveled to Houston and surrounding areas. Dr. Wu and Denise Winn-Bower assisted in being drivers and chaperoning the group. We all found sometime to visit with a few of the alumni from MCERS. Back row: Safian Atan, Dr. Ozkan, Arjun Bathija, Dr. Wu, Denise. Front row: Basak Burtoglu, Alev Ozkan.
