Dr. DeAnn Craig ’73 ’80 MS ’02 PhD ’05 ’06
PE Hall of Fame Class of 2022
Dr. DeAnn Craig was the first woman elected president of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and as president of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers.
She received five Mines degrees: two bachelor’s, two master’s and a PhD. Throughout her life, Craig demonstrated a thirst for knowledge and commitment to making contributions to Mines and to the field.
Craig rose from various reservoir and drilling positions at Mobil and Philips to worldwide drilling and production manager and president of Phillips Petroleum Resources Canada. She was Phillips’ federal relations representative, and later worked for Chevron. She also served on the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.
She was a strong advocate for women in the petroleum industry and for all engineers developing skills to manage their careers through skill development and energy education.
Craig was an active Mines volunteer, serving on the Alumni Association board—president in 1988—the Mines Board of Trustees and the Mines Foundation Board of Governors. She was also an adjunct professor in the petroleum engineering department from 2009 to 2014. After she died in 2019, her husband Bruce established the DeAnn Craig, PhD, Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund to honor her.
