MOHAMED KHALED

Dr. Mohamed Shafik Khaled is an Assistant Professor in the Petroleum Engineering Department at the Colorado School of Mines, having joined in 2024. He brings extensive expertise in advanced drilling research, oil and gas operations, and geothermal energy development.

Dr. Khaled began his career at Halliburton Co., where he worked for over five years, notably as a Drilling Solutions Engineer. In this role, he was instrumental in well planning, identifying drilling limiters, and resolving drilling-related challenges across various global projects. He later earned his Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University (TAMU). He continued his academic and research pursuits at the University of Texas at Austin, serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering and subsequently as a Research Assistant Professor in the Bureau of Economic Geology (BEG).

His current research is focused on advancing technology for drilling and well construction, improving the life cycle process of geothermal systems for heat and power production, and conducting high-resolution geological and heat flow mapping. Dr. Khaled’s work is dedicated to enhancing sustainable and efficient subsurface energy systems on Earth and in Space.
