My name is Tony Salgado-Chami, and I’m a rising senior in the department. I think Mines uniquely prepares us for our professional development by giving us access to our industry’s premier societies. Since my freshman year, I’ve been pushed into leadership roles by friends and faculty alike: I currently serve as the SPE chapter treasurer, AADE secretary, and Petrobowl team captain following terms as secretary, event coordinator, and parliamentarian respectively.
But Mines doesn’t just prepare us for academics. By leveraging our extensive alumni network, I was able to intern with bpx energy for two consecutive summers. Last year, I had the opportunity to build out an interference & degradation model for the Haynesville business unit as a reservoir engineer; this year, I got to help the Permian production engineers build out some new, AI-driven technologies that’ll improve on some legacy workflows. I’ll
be glad to return next year, and am grateful for all the opportunities Mines’ petroleum department has given me!
